Bio/professional experience
The first part of my nursing career (1975-2008) was in the service sector of health care and involved diverse settings, including nursing homes, home health, inpatient medical-surgical, psychiatric, forensic and chemical dependency units for children, adolescents and adults. In these setting, I held several titles including staff nurse, head nurse, service director, director of nursing and staff development, clinical instructor, director of adventure based counseling, primary therapist, consultant and crises assessment coordinator. The variety and opportunity these roles provided was wonderful.
In 2001, I joined the MU Sinclair School of Nursing faculty as a clinical instructor in Nursing Outreach and Distance Education and developed continuing education programs for practicing nurses. Currently I teach community health and mental health to undergraduates, accelerated students and RNs who are working on their BSN.
