We are so very grateful for your past support of the Fund the Drive for Nurses scholarship golf tournament. In the past few years, you have helped us generate more than $146,000 toward the establishment of an endowed fund by the same name. The scholarships this fund has generated have already enabled 68 students to pursue their career goal of becoming a nurse.

As you have heard, the University is facing challenging financial times and we are all doing our part to make the best use of our manpower, to be the best stewards of the funding entrusted to us, and to tighten our financial belts where we can.

We are also cognizant of the way the economy is affecting our donors and their businesses, and are respectful and understanding that you too have had to re-evaluate your philanthropic support.

As such, we have elected to take a “bye” year from our scholarship golf tournament in 2009 and concentrate on one major event on our school calendar — the 19th Annual Banquet and Awards Ceremony on April 24.  The traditional banquet evening marks the culmination of achievement by students, faculty, staff and alumni whom we recognize; it allows us to tell the nursing story to a broad audience.  It is a tradition we can only continue with your support.

Please accept our heartfelt thanks for supporting the Fund the Drive for Nurses scholarship golf tournament.  As you plan your 2009 tax-deductible contributions, we humbly ask those of you who have given to both areas, to elevate your support for just the banquet this year.

For those who have never supported this event, I encourage you to mark your calendars now for April 24, and underscore your support of nursing education by stepping forward as a sponsor at any level. Your early response will enable us to plan accordingly.

The University of Missouri is an institution steeped in tradition. We hold these things on high and share them with those who came before us. They sustain us in troubled times — and remind us why we strive to be a great University, instilling these values in the next generation.

Please be a part of our history — and continue to stand up for nursing education and this important tradition at our state’s great flagship university, the University of Missouri.

Warmest regards,
