Jackson nurse nominated for MU nursing award

COLUMBIA , Mo.  –  Amy O'Rear, of Jackson, Mo., was recently nominated for the 2008 Nursing Alumni Organization's RN-to-BSN Nursing Award for Overall Excellence from the Sinclair School of Nursing at the University of Missouri. The award recognizes potential for clinical proficiency, academic excellence and professional commitment.

O'Rear, her husband of 14 years, Jim, and their four children are lifetime residents of Jackson. Working as a cardiac nurse for Southeast Missouri Hospital and as a float RN per diem for St. Francis Medical Center, both of which are located in Cape Girardeau, Mo., O'Rear was able to meet the nurse that inspired her as a young child.

“My father spent a lot of time in the hospital, but children under the age of 12 weren't allowed in the patient's rooms,” said O'Rear. “This nurse went out of her way to help me spend time with my dad. Her compassion and giving spirit is something I have never forgotten. When we met again, nurse to nurse, I let her know how much I appreciated her.”
